We are also our bodies, our emotions, and our spirituality – all these things combine to give us identity, determine our healthcare, and make us who we are. Like many, she started out in the classroom, teaching children at the elementary level, where she was known for creating a community like no other. Families sought out her classroom as a haven for their children, a place where they could grow and work through whatever challenge they were facing that year in and out of the classroom.
After several years of teaching, she went on to get her Masters in Literacy, becoming a literacy specialist. In that role, she supported struggling readers and coached adult learners. For the last ten years she has worked as a consultant, providing professional development for teachers throughout the state of Massachusetts, working for state grants to improve literacy instruction and opportunities for increased student learning within classrooms. She is currently building a consulting business of her own as an educational consultant, coach, and school liaison for families. Kathleen M. Slack
Director
RN, MSN, PMHNP-BC
Kathleen is an Integrative Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. She has been a Registered Nurse for 30 years and spent most of her time as a Registered Nurse in the inpatient Oncology department. Throughout those years she had the privilege of caring for medical oncology, bone marrow transplant, and palliative care patients. And, as a side note, she spent a couple of years as a postpartum nurse, caring for new moms and their babies. Throughout that time, she was married, and had four wonderful children.
Approximately 5 years ago she decided to return to school to become a nurse practitioner. She specifically chose to become a psychiatric nurse practitioner, even though none of my experience and background is specifically in psychiatry. Her y choice was deliberate as she had been a firsthand witness to the need for attentive mental health care to be available and provided to patients and their families. I also witnessed that what is available is lacking when it comes to tending to the person as a whole and with consideration of their mind, body, and spirit.
Currently, she is in the process of starting my own practice as an Integrative Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. She has chosen to start my own practice to provide a comprehensive and holistic approach to mental healthcare that encompasses both Eastern and Western medicine.
The opportunity to participate as a board member for WeBreathe Wellbeing: Soul Sanctuary is an honor for Kathy. She is excited to be part of such a wonderful and needed endeavor. The intentions and philosophies of WeBreathe Wellbeing: Soul Sanctuary dovetail perfectly with her own thoughts, aspirations, and intentions for the mental health care of individuals. The creation of this space will provide access and opportunity that would otherwise not exist.
